Venison in Kirkhill Primary

We were pleased to support Kirkhill Primary School, near Inverness, in putting local, wild venison from Highland Hill Larder on their menu for National Venison Day (4th Sept).

Lots of pupils opted for the venison cottage pie, with resoundingly positive feedback. No portions were left by the time the teachers got round to having their lunch!

We are now following this up by opening up a conversation with the procurement team at Highland Council; to understand the challenges and opportunities of getting local, wild venison on school menus more consistently. As you might imagine this is a complex picture and there are no easy answers!

For more information, Scottish Venison has produced free, downloadable education resources for teachers, pupils and caterers with recipes, lesson plans and information on how to arrange an estate or deer larder visit.
